Overview
The game explores the underground racing scenes of major cities and its various cultural nuances.
Cars in the game are mostly tuners; smaller engine light Japanese cars with high rev ranges, with the game heavily relying on “drifting” and drag racing.
The game is open-world and free to roam as the player desires.
And as an open world game, it caters to a wide variety of optional tasks and gameplay entities like discovering garages to unlock features and mods.
Style points are awarded in game as a part of encouraging the use of the built in visual mod repertoire.Underground 2 also introduces several SUVs, which could be customized as extensively as other Underground 2 vehicles and used to race against other SUV racers
Gameplay includes several racing modes like Drift, Sprint, Circuit, Drag and Inter player challenges.
In addition to the racing modes included in the previous Underground, four new variations of races have been provided in Underground 2. One racing mode was dropped, this being the Knockout competitions. Still, a Lap Knockout option is available when racing Circuit in non-career races.
The Underground Racing League (URL) is a set of tournaments which takes place in a specific set of closed tracks outside city streets - either actual racing circuits or airport runways.
URL tournaments typically consist of one to three races, with the player racing against five opponents.
In tournaments with two or more races, a points system is used. At the end of each race, drivers receive a specific amount of points according to their standing in a race. The total score at the end of these races determines the winner of the tournament.

Players race against multiple opponents to unlock different cars and upgrades as the game progresses.
Players also have the option of laying up different mods and upgrades to their cars and a myriad of different visual/performance options.
Overall, it is a worthy addition to the series, providing a much more interesting nonlinear style of play. The only major problem that seems to surface is the fact you will need to devote quite some time and mental energy to complete this game, and often the gameplay just gets too stale in the time needed to even complete just a few races in one sitting.
